Where does the time go!?

It's hard to believe we're already two weeks away from our holiday vacation! It seems like only yesterday we were starting out the year!

Students are finally putting the finishing touches on their personal memoirs (our largest writing project of the year). Students have made fabulous progress in their writing; I'm so proud to see so many complete, descriptive sentences!

Our new writing project will focus around writing persuasive letters while following business letter format. Students will choose a topic about which they feel strongly, and will attempt to convince their readers to agree with their viewpoints.

In Reading, we just completed a mini-study of World War II using the inspirational story Passage to Freedom. Students were quick to make the connection that the theme of this story connects directly with Eastwood's Eagle Way (specifically, "Treat others the way you want to be treated").

In the next few weeks, our work in reading will touch on a variety of skills (compare and contrast, identifying character traits, identifying theme, to name a few). We'll also try to wrap up our exciting read-aloud (Among the Hidden) before break.
